Melanie is a young woman with impressive artistic talent. We believe artists work best in an art studio which is why we moved our art group to a dedicated space within Broadstone Mill. With suitable sinks, storage and equipment this environment has seen talent really blossom.
Melanie has experimented with many techniques including collage, screen printing, drawing and painting. Group leader Abbi was so impressed with one of Melanie’s paintings that together they submitted in to the ‘It Will Never Work’ exhibition held as part of Manchester Science Festival. We maintain that an artist in no less an artist for having a learning disability and this proved to be the case.
Melanie’s work ‘The Colourful Planet’ was selected and to her delight was on display for two months at the Nexus Art Cafe in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
Since Melanie’s debut exhibition she has continued to develop her artistic skills. She has found that creating products to sell is her real passion. A typical project for Melanie might begin with researching images for inspiration using the group’s iPad, developing a design that would look attractive on a product and placing it for sale in our shop area. Recently she created a limited edition of 10 note books. Designed and made by Melanie, each one is numbered and available to buy for £3.50 (from August 14). To buy one of Melanie’s beautiful note books you can visit our shop in Broadstone Mill, Stockport or contact us for further options.
