Members of Vernon studio have recently been joined by artist Tim Ward. Tim will be creating a large scale sculpture for the new Stockport Interchange that depicts Stockport’s significant people, places and moments in time. Tim visited the studio to reveal his plans and to create artwork with our members that celebrates Stockport’s rich heritage. The workshop was a great experience that gave the group insight into the life of a professional artist. Over the years Tim has made many sculpture across the UK, each one completely different from the last. You can see more of Tim’s work here.
Meeting Tim has brought about a new opportunity to four of our members; the role of research volunteer. Melanie, Josh, Alex and Nic have all taken on this responsability with great enthusiasm, gathering information about the area through site visits and Stockport’s heritage library. All the information gathered by the group will be compiled together for Tim to refer to when creating the finished sculpture.
“Being a research volunteer has been great so far. I’ve visited lots of places to gather ideas and have used some of them to make artwork. I’m looking forward to passing it all onto Tim to help him with his work” – Nic
